Modified Bitumen Roof Systems

Modified bitumen systemsModified bitumen systems provide a solid system that is resistant to many chemicals, burns, and impacts. An extremely durable system, modified bitumen is a roof system of choice in many applications where there is potential exposure to chemicals from kitchen exhaust, debris collection, minor burn hazards, etc. Alpine Roofing proudly maintains the time honored and tried and true methods of proper installation and care of modified bitumen roof systems and is one of the only companies that maintains the expertise and equipment to properly and safely install both torch down and cold application methods of installation.

What is it?

Polymer-modified bitumen or modified bitumen (MB) sheet membranes are composed of reinforcing fabrics that serve as carriers for the hot polymer-modified bitumen as it is manufactured into a roll material. MB roof system membranes are composed of multiple layers, much like BUR membranes. MB roof systems typically are installed as a two-ply system and almost always are fully adhered.

A roof system composed of a built-up roof membrane with two plies or three plies and a polymer-modified bitumen membrane cap sheet is commonly referred to as a ‘hybrid’ system.
